Our journey started in 1991 in the city of Dallas. Our childhood was as normal as being raised in a single-parent household could be. We loved both of our parents and always longed for a nuclear family as taught by television.
It was around 2000 when our dad moved out of his mom’s house with us and re-married. This gave us a stepmother, 2 step-brothers, a step-sister and a year later a half-sister. It was during this time we began experimenting with our identity but after some bullying from our older step-brother we suppressed it.
Despite our strained relationship with our step-mother we got along well with our new family and let our imagination run while which led to us having a love for writing; see Fan-Fictions and the History of the Elementz Series. This imaginary world would wind down between the ending of W.I.T.C.H and graduating high school. After finishing junior high we moved back in with our grandmother after bullying at school and stress from step-mother led to us self-harming, running away ultimately having an episode so bad that had us shortly institutionalized. Things were much better here as this is where the best years of our life were located. While we still suffered from depression amongst other things, our love of the Wii, anime, film-making and the golden age of the internet kept us hopeful until we entered college.
In college we found other nerds we could resonate with but wasn’t taking our classes seriously. We were just having fun and socializing, something we weren’t so used to. This was also around the time we got our first job at Greyhound which allowed us to visit Japan in the summer of 2012. It was also around this time we took a break from school and worked a bunch of dead end jobs. The main one being our airport job.
However, prior to this, we had to deal with our dysphoria which initially expressed itself as us wanting to transition, however in time and with more reflection, we came to understand that we don’t see things as gendered in life. We understood things are assigned gender but ultimately they were human first, gender and other qualifiers second. Personally, we identify as an androgyne; which is under the umbrella term non-binary, and as you can see throughout our site, we use gender-neutral pronouns. We are in the camp where; while it would be nice, it’s an individual’s choice to respect the pronouns of others. We would never advocate being the word-police.
We worked at the airport for 6 years and it was the dead-end job where we were able to manage our money well enough to go to Japan two additional times; first for our 24th birthday in the winter of 2015/16 and then again shortly after buckling down and getting our Associate’s in Arts in 2018 where we went with a friend we had made during our Mario Kart Wii Days in high school. That all ended in 2020 with COVID as we were furloughed halfway through our overall university life.
We graduated from university in 2021 and rest for a little over a year. During that time we created this site as we want to have a log of all of our most cherished memories for either when our mind goes bad or the inevitability of just forgetting things you once loved in life.
Now after two years of patience, we finally secured a job in Japan. Time is running out and soon we will say goodbye to the place we’ve known for our entire life. Time to start life anew…well despite the apprehension lol.
