Some of my earliest memories are living with my father at his mom’s house in the 90’s. That’s why it’s extra nostalgic that we are in the exact same room to this day though our father moved out almost 2 decades ago. But enough with the preface.
During those days our room; like most of the house, had carpeting. Our dad owned a Sega Genesis & a Master System with the most memorable games being Sonic 3, Dynamite Headdy, and the Sega 6 Pak.(Before looking it up we thought it was the 4 Pak but we remember it having Sonic 1, Columns, Golden Axe, and Street of Rage, doh.) We had a little grey TV with a dailpad on the from hidden with a plague when not in use. Dad loved Star Trek and Dragon Ball Z, so we often watched it with him. Otherwise, when he turned on KERA for us, we’d enjoy cartoons & shows like Wishbone, The Puzzle Place, Arthur & Seasame Street, etc. We also remember watching cartoons such as Street Sharks, remember this was mid 90’s before shows like Pokemon, Cardcaptor, Sailor Moon, Digimon, etc that we’d eventually grow to love. The TV was on a brown wooden L-shaped corner desk with a recess in the center. Here was a water jug of coins. Dad also had tons of car & models poster on the back wall and a black chest near the door, We stabbed our toe on it pretty bad one time.
The living room was was to the right and had about chest-high wall dividing it from the dining room. On top of that was a candy jar and other items. The dining room had a glass table; with brown chairs with a metal support frame, with an old grey computer/shredder near the bar with 4 bar stools; two on each side. On the other side of the counter near the back door was the kitchen with a small wooden table for us and our siblings to draw & play. On the wall across from that was a small circular table In the actual kitchen on the right wall was what we can only describe as an open, micro pantry with a microwave on top with the stove being located on the opposite wall. In front of the kitchen/porch window was the sink in the center with an old brown refrigerator; which no longer produced ice, to the right and a counter space to the left. The kitchen floor has laminate flooring with an endless pattern of different shaped squares and rectangles. Near the in-track, sliding patio door was a key rack shaped like a house.
Nothing too special about the bathroom besides the fact that it had a gas, ceramic heater in the wall. Loved it in the wintertime.
Grandmother’s room to the best of our knowledge had a ton of plushies on the wall.
Now for the den; which interestingly enough was a garage at first but was converted before we were even born. During the 90’s you had to step down into it and it still had its concrete floor. Near the front door was an old school fat-box TV and on the left wall was a couch/pull-out bed combo. If we were in the kitchen writing or reading. When we’re in the den, however, we’d be playing our GameBoy and watching cartoons.
The front yard is mostly the same as it is today. The only major difference is that the driveway is only half as wide and doesn’t have a storm drain. The backyard use to have a standard metal fence with a wooden frame. The shed aka “little house” was made of metal. All of the trees in the front yard have grown up from being small shrubs/bush to full-on decorative trees. The same however could be said for the backyard. There were 4 trees in the backyard at that time; one directly in front of the patio which was the biggest, a peach tree to the right of the shed and another tree near the clothesline to the left. The biggest was cut down around the 2000’s, the other two lasted into our teens year which we will try to remember to go over in the “Teenage Memorie’Series“
