I don’t exactly recall how we found this channel back in like 2006 or 2007 but I remember being fascinated that our satellite box; the PANSAT 3500S-SD, had thousands of channels and guess we were surfing at the right time to find the anime block. While we don’t remember the exact channel number, research indicates that it had to be either 9396 or 9407
The only anime they were showing that would have caught our eye would have been Dragon Ball and to a lesser extent Blue Gender. But once we found it, we were hooked. This were where we discovered Case Closed, Kodocha and Slayers. We think we already knew what Spiral, Fruit Basket & Negima were but by the time we found the channel, they were on their way out or already gone. Regardless, we were too interested in them despite knowing how good they were.
The most I heard of the Galaxy Railway series was from a commercial that ran during the Funimation block and never knew nor hear anything about Lupin the Third, Baki the Grappler, Kiddy Grade and Tenshi Muyo GXP.
It was also during this time that we transitioned to recording on DVD so we began to record things like Case Closed, Kodocha and maybe even Slayer.
While doing research for the memory post; we noticed the Wikipedia page we once read no longer exists. However, not all is lost and forgotten. I found a short video made a few months ago on Oct 21, 2023.
Also, along with the anti-virus ad that we still have been unable to find, the earworm that is the Mr. Stain on Junk Alley DVD promo would come and go from our mind over the years but we could never remember the name.
Sadly the channel disappeared about a year after we graduated from high school though we stopped watching the channel prior to or around graduation possibly due ease of access to anime on the internet during the time which countered the re-runs and an ever-dwendling catalog of anime on the network. Nothing last forever but what it provided to us is yet another unforgettable memory.
