For the first edition of Meme-ory, we want to share a meme we discovered on youtube but was originally published on NicoNicoDouga; the will be a running theme throughout the High School Era, known as the Paffendorf Dance. While writing this we actually listen to the source song from 2005. Interestingly, the remixed version was used instead of the original and can be heard around the 1:04 mark of the video below.
Naturally, the music and dance was stupidly addicting to teenage us and still is to the day. Ah the magic of old-school youtube.
Now you may be asking how did you find this? But these videos were everywhere on youtube. We had only recently begun to learn Japanese and google translate was still in its infancy. Not only that, anime felt like it was in that blurry area between niche to the anime connoisseurs as far as the online scene went or rather mainstream and oversaturated with causals talking non-stop about animes like One Piece, Bleach, Dragon Ball, Naruto, etc. nothing wrong with those animes but calling it as it is. It didn’t help that at the time we wanted to be a hardcore otaku. So if you a part of any of those communities, you’d be getting recommended videos like this left and right. Below are our favorite two instances of this meme that entrenched themselves in our teenage mind amongst many.

In the next Meme-ory, we switch from the simply addictive to captivatingly creative.
